THE WATER (PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF POLLUTION) RULES, 1975

[Dated the 27th February, 1975]
1[G.S.R. 58(E).-In exercise of the powers conferred by section 63 of the Water
(Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 (6 of 1974) the Central Government after consultations with 2[Central Pollution Control Board], hereby makes the following rules,
namely:-
CHAPTER 1
PRELIMINARY

1. SHORT TITLE AND COMMENCEMENT.

(1) These rules may be called the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution)
Rules, 1975.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official
Gazette.

2. DEFINITIONS.

In these rules unless the context otherwise requires:
(a) "Act" means the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974
(b) "Chairman" means the Chairman of the Central Board;
(c) "Central Board Laboratory" means a laboratory established or recognised as such under sub-section (3) of section 16;
(d) "Central Water Laboratory" means a laboratory established or specified as such under sub-section (I) of section 51;
(e) "Form" means a form set out in Schedule I;
